Rock the First, Vol. 9 contains a selection of Southern Rock hits from the '70s and '80s. Nearly all of the genre's big names -- including
Lynyrd Skynyrd ("What's Your Name"),
Gregg Allman ("I'm No Angel"),
Molly Hatchet ("Flirtin' With Disaster"),
Charlie Daniels Band ("THe Devil Went Down to Georgia") and
Marshall Tucker Band ("Heard It In A Love Song") -- are featured on the collection, as are artists that are only tangental to the genre, such as
the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Consequently, the collection gives a good overview of the genre, capturing its style, sentiments and sound -- it's not a bad introduction to southern rock.
