The Beatles Become a Corporation

On May 14, 1968, The Beatles announce the launch of their own record label, publishing house, film company, and even a couple of clothing boutiques — all under the banner “Apple.” This broke all new ground for rock as other bands would follow suit, and take control of their music by starting their own record labels. And a young Steve Jobs was inspired to start his own enterprise that would also revolutionize the music business with the creation of iTunes and the iPod. But The Beatles’ Apple would sue the Jobs’ Apple over trademark infringement, thus keeping the music of the Beatles off of iTunes until just recently.
