Dead Guy In An Envelope (Round 19 - Day 17).. we have a winner!!
It's been 17 days since we started this 19th round of Montreal's favourite afternoon challenge and we have another winner! Congrats to Elizabeth O'Kill (Pointe-Claire), who (along with her husband's help) guessed that our Dead Guy was none other than popcorn magnate..
Orville Clarence Redenbacher (July 16, 1907 – September 19, 1995).. an American businessman most often associated with the brand of popcorn that bears his name. Born in Brazil, Indiana on July 16, 1907, Orville grew up on his family's farm where he sometimes sold popcorn from the back of his car . He graduated from Brazil High School in 1921 in the top 5% of his class. He attended Purdue University, where he joined the agriculture-oriented Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and the Purdue All-American Marching Band. He also joined the Purdue University track team. He graduated in 1928 with a degree in agronomy. (More)
Elizabeth wins the ultimate bragging rights as the current title-holder on CHOM's "Dead Guy in an Envelope" and gets a $100 gas card to help ease the pain as gas prices just shot up almost 10 cents/litre in the city!
Tune in to the Afternoon Rock Ride with Bilal tomorrow at 3:40pm for a new round with a new "dead guy" and a new prize!
Just for fun.. here's one of the many TV commercials that Orville starred in and another that featured a digitally computer-generated version of him (after his death) that critics dubbed "Orville Deadenbacher" since he was said to scare many children, resulting in the campaign being pulled from television. Can you tell which one is the REAL grandpa Orville?
Here were the clues that Elizabeth had to base her answer on...
