A new God is announced when Hendrix gets up and jams with Cream

It was at the Polytechnic of Central London on the campus of the University of Westminster on Regent's Street that a new Rock Guitar God was announced on October 1, 1966: Jimi Hendrix.

Only ten days before, the 23 year old Jimi Hendrix arrived in London with his new manager, the former bass player from The Animals, Chas Chandler. Chandler saw him perform in New York, and convinced him to come pursue a career in the booming music scene of London. One of the ways Chandler enticed him was by promising him that he could meet Eric Clapton. Jimi  was a big fan of the album Clapton recorded with the Bluesbreakers. And sure enough, only 10 days after arriving, Hendrix got his wish.
