According to sources, Microsoft will remove the Gold Membership requirement in order to access services such as Netflix, Hulu and other media streaming services. This unnecessary pay wall essentially forced users to pay two seperate monthly fees in order to enjoy media on the Xbox platform. This isn't the case on rival consoles by Nintendo and Sony. Increased popularity of media boxes like the Apple TV surely played a role in the change in policy.
However, Microsoft might put other services behind the Xbox Live Gold Account paywall like the upcoming Xbox Originals.
We expect Microsoft make an official announcement regarding these changes during their E3 conference on June 9th.
