Barbara Manning had been dropping some pretty broad hints that she was a baseball fan years before the S.F. Seals released this EP-length tribute to the boys of summer. Her solo compilation, A Perfect Green Blanket, took its name from a phrase for a baseball diamond, and this short-lived band's moniker, the San Francisco Seals -- shortened here to the S.F. Seals -- came from the minor league team that once counted Joe DiMaggio among its ranks. The Yankee slugger is represented on the EP by "Joltin' Joe DiMaggio," a jazzy New Orleans-style romp originally recorded by Les Brown & His Orchestra with Betty Bonney (Doris Day sang the number with the same group). Read More
