With less of an accent on turntablist credentials, Dj Spinna's Mix The Vibe: Eclectic Mindset focuses on consistency and tone. Starting off with doe-eyed hip-hop, and ending with the luminous vibes of The Ananda Project and What's Happenin', there's a lot to say for Dj Spinna's world of soulful, R&B-influenced, pretension-phobic rhythm mixing. There's a small section midway through where Spinna does a simple spin-back cross-fade from Mondo Grosso's after-club jazz cut "MG4BB" to the scattered Ron Trent mix of Eri Ito's "Sona Mi Areru Ec Sancitu," and it not only sounds natural, but also smart and quietly exciting. Read More
