So, not the kind of Brit that requires an accent, just a reaction to the "comeback."  I like the MTV Awards because the artists show up, and it looks like everyone is having fun.  I don't know why MTV Canada doesn't carry the show on show night... They had a pre-show stuff, and were advertising the post-show breakdown for the next night, but didn't carry the show while it aired.  What is the point of that channel??!!

Elsewhere, I'm tiring of the Britney watch we've been forced into over the last couple of years.  Really, WHO CARES??  It boils down to a whole set up to fail procedure of creating uncomfortable scenarios for her, that are followed by instinctive reactions, and then typical twentysomething behaviour that combined with all the 'holding the  baby while driving' pics and unflattering butt shots that frequent the internet and run as top stories on Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood (don't get me started on those once-entertaining-now-tabloid-'we knew about her downward spiral first and told you' shows - if their personal lives are that troubled, don't talk about them, help them!), make a no win situation for her.

Having said all that.... let's talk about her professionally.  =)  She'd been planning this "comeback" for a couple of weeks at least.  There was word on her consultative involvement with Chris Angel Mindfreak; he was supposed to have helped her with the concept of this MTV performance.  So, was it him who suggested that she go out there with no enthusiasm, lip-synch poorly, move in slow-mo and depend mostly on the sparkly undies outfit?  Good one.  Maybe stick to the mind freakin'.  At least for her 'second album image change' performance she accessorized with a snake around her neck!!

Why a "comeback"?  Couldn't she just have figured out what she wanted to do next, and then done it.  ...wait a minute... maybe her new approach is a slacker combo of bedazzled underwear and forced sexy.  Oh well...  Perhaps Mr. Celine Dion is to blame for the imposed need for a "comeback."  Remember Celine took some time to have a baby, and instead of just making a new album when it was time they called it a retirement... one that lasted 3 years... and then came the comeback.  It's a waste of time.  Are we that scattered that we need to be carried through the process?  Can't people just be excited at the possibility of a new album from an artist they like?  Peter Gabriel and David Bowie never had to retire before their new albums!  And no I'm not comparing one to another note for note, just as artists who sell albums.

Back to Britney.  She exploded at a time where little girls needed an idol, and little boys needed to outwardly hate, and secretly love a cute blond in a school uniform.  It's a cycle churns out newbies as needed, and talent or not, if you enjoy the fruits of that kind of labour you have to know that there is an end date on your popularity with the millions who love you.  If you have the talent, then you keep on creating, and connecting with someone.  Britney happens to be surrounded, if not outnumbered by many talented performers who have either tapped into her old demographic, or figured out what those kids who are a bit older want from their idols.  If nothing else, maybe a bit of energy, humility and not depending on old tricks would've sparked the bored performance on the MTV Awards.  Having said THAT... the snake would've helped.  =)
