Day 1: Quest To Be The Best..
Wed, 2007-09-19 21:37.
Ok, so I was told that a 'blog' is supposed to contain your thoughts and opinions on certain subjects or simply a place where you can get your thoughts out! Back to the idea of freedom of speech I guess. So, here's what I was thinking the other day.. and you can call me cocky, conceded or crazy for all I care! However, if you look at most of the successful people in this world, they were either discouraged or ridiculed throughout their climb to the top, but they never let it distract them and neither will yours truly. I knew at a very young age that I was destined to be great at something in this world and I truly believe that everyone is.. most of us just don't see it in us to pursue the dream! I wrote a song once called 'Last Child' about the prodigal son sent down to save the world from war, racism and corruption. That's what I had envisioned as my purpose in life at the time because I do believe its a possibility to stop all the madness! The problem is, even if you have the answer to the world's problems.. no one will listen to you unless you are important enough. At first, I tried to achieve success through music, which hasn't worked out for me yet, but right now its clear that I have a green light to make it happen in radio.. so why not? All the great entertainers will tell you how hard they had to work for it and how they had no life for the longest time because thats the kind of dedication it takes. I recently read an article in the August edition of Maxim magazine called 'CEO Secrets: The Hidden Rulebook of Business Success' where the most successful entrepreneurs, including Donald Trump and President/CEO of Harley-Davidson Joe Ziemer, gave tips on how they got to where they are today. Here are a few of the quotes that stirred up these dreams of grandeur.
"Big dreams are a powerful, motivating force. One of the traits of a leader is the ability to dream about what could be." - Joe Ziemer, president and CEO, Harley-Davidson -
"My father told me, 'Know everything you can about what you're doing,' and I listened to him. Being thorough is very important, no matter what your field of work is." - Donald Trump, chairman and president, Trump Organization -
"Decisions require sacrifice. If you choose to open one business, you are not going to get to do another one. If you don't make any choices, the sacrifice you make is that you never get anywhere." - Paul Budnitz, founder, Kidrobot -
Well, I'm ready to make that kind of sacrifice if it means I can make a difference. I now find myself on a life-draining pursuit to make a difference in the world by BEING different. Kind of the same way that John Lennon did when he became the voice of a new generation against war and violence. (See my last blog entry, 'The U.S. vs. John Lennon') For starters, my name.. Bilal. Do you know of ANYONE with such a different, more uncommon name in broadcast history? I'm not planning on becoming some kind of political activist, but simply looking to excel to the point where I stand out in my field as someone that is unique.. and thats where you guys come in!
I'd love to hear your opinions, comments, criticism, suggestions and generally what kind of radio personality YOU like. I'm interested in making radio for the people and by the people. If you knew me personally, you would know that I'm a really humble dude that's more interested in everyone getting along than watching TV. I gave up that medium years ago! So, here's your chance to join the revolution. Are you in?? Send me YOUR thoughts: bilal@chom.com
And for the love of all things pure and true in this world.. FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS!! Godspeed.
