Say goodbye to nightly calls from pesky telemarketers

Tonight may be the last time you ever have to hang-up on a telemarketer.

A federal do-not-call-list comes into effect tomorrow (sept 30th, 2008)  and according to a survey done by Acrobat Research, nearly two-thirds of Canadians (60 percent) plan to register their phone numbers on the list.

Once a phone number is on the no-call registry, telemarketers who dial it will face a hefty fine.

If you want to add your name and number to the registry, you can call 1-866-580-DNCL, or log on to http://www.LNNTE-DNCL.gc.ca and follow the directions.

It should take up to 24 hours for your name to finally be added to the list. Telemarketers may not be able to update their lists right away though, so there is a 31-day grace period.

Your name will have to be re-submitted to the registry every three years.
