Last summer, SMASHING PUMPKINS singer Billy Corgan held auditions to replace drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.. and ended up hiring a then-19-year-old kid named Mike Byrne.

Well, after his success with the little drummer boy.. Billy has now decided to hold auditions to fill two other spots in the band:  Bassist and Keyboardist. 

Billy says anyone is welcome to audition.  If you're interested, you have until March 31st to email him a bio, a musical resume, photos, and a performance video.

New Video: Celebrity Bartenders for Haiti @ Irish Embassy Pub!

The entire world came together to raise money for devastated earthquake victims in Haiti over the last month and thanks to you.. the efforts continue.  On January 27, most of the CHOM crew, along with several other media, entertainment and sports names in the city stepped behind the bar at Montreal's Irish Embassy Pub & Grill to help out when owner Joe Cannon Jr. decided to donate all the money collected from drink sales on a busy Wednesday night to the Red Cross' Haiti Relief Fund.  Follow the Butt-Man on his first stint as a drink-slinger.. and no, it didn't go as smoothly as planned!

Johnny Depp Shreds on New All-Star Haiti Relief Song.. is there anything he can't do??

Johnny Depp displays his lead guitar skills on the latest all-star charity relief song for Haiti, which features Shane MacGowan (from The Pogues), Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders), Nick Cave, Bobby Gillespie (from Primal Scream), Mick Jones (from The Clash) and others.

CBS Rejects Another Superbowl Ad.. What Do YOU Think??

Does the thought of an effeminate former football player make you queasy?  It sure made the big wigs at CBS run for the garbage can, because they've rejected another GoDaddy.Com ad for next weekend's big game.  While the web domain giants at GoDaddy.Com decided to stick with their sexy spokeswoman (F1 driver) Danica Patrick.. they also tried their luck with crossing the (for some reason) feared gay-barrier in their new Superbowl ad, only to be shut down by CBS execs, who once again deemed this one to be "too racy."

A Look Back at the Historical Riot Following G-n-R's '92 Gig in Montreal!!

It was August 8, 1992 at Montreal's Olympic Stadium, when Guns N' Roses' summer concert co-headlining tour with Metallica came to a screeching halt.

During the performance, Metallica's set was cut short when lead singer James Hetfield was burned in a pyrotechnics accident.

Guns N' Roses was unable to take the stage early to make up for Metallica's abbreviated performance, as Rose was once again late arriving at the venue. Further compounding the situation, Rose walked off stage and left the stadium after playing nine songs (only about 50 minutes), claiming he had problems with his voice.

Before "Double Talkin' Jive", Rose said this will be "our last show for a long time", and at the end of "Civil War", their last song, Rose said "Thank you, your money will be refunded" and walked offstage. A riot ensued, which spilled out into the streets. Authorities were barely able to bring the chaos under control.

AC/DC Debut New Video and Announce New Album in Cahoots with Iron Man 2!!

AC/DC has just announced AC/DC: Iron Man 2, the official album set to be released April 19th through Columbia Records in support of the upcoming Iron Man 2 film from Marvel Studios.

The album will feature 15 classic AC/DC songs, selected from ten of the band's studio albums, ranging from 1976 to 2008. Included in the album are notable classics such as "Shoot To Thrill", "Thunderstruck", "Let There Be Rock" and "War Machine", from the recent Black Ice release.

Also making its worldwide premiere today, is the official AC/DC: Iron Man 2 video for "Shoot To Thrill". The video features the original track from Back In Black and was filmed live in Buenos Aires last month while on their sold out Black Ice World Tour.

Iron Man 2 will be distributed by Paramount Pictures and is scheduled for release on May 7, 2010 in the U.S. and Canada. Now, watch the new AC/DC video for "Shoot To Thrill" and get pumped for the new movie!

BON JOVI will perform at the Grammys this year.. and YOU have a say in what song they'll be doing!  Producers have set up a poll online, and they'll be accepting votes from now right up until the show on January 31st.

A-Team: The NEW Movie.. Check Out The Trailer Here!!

Let's be honest guys.. no matter how good or bad the new "A-Team" movie looks, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE IT!! There's just too much nostalgia potential to ignore this highly promising action flick.

The ''A-Team'' movie stars Liam Neeson as "Hannibal" Smith, Bradley Cooper as Templeton "Faceman " Peck, and MMA fighter Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as B.A. Baracus -- roles originally played by George Peppard, Dirk Benedict, and Mr. T, respectively.  Jessica Biel also stars in the film, which is directed by ''Smokin' Aces'' director Joe Carnahan.  It is produced by the famed movie-creating brothers, Tony and Ridley Scott.

The new movie is set for release on June 11th, but there's a new trailer online and the movie looks pretty good.  Not only that.. the characters actually look like the originals.. and there's a bevy of non-stop action to keep you on the edge of your seat!

Lenny Kravitz Confirms.. Leaked MJ Track Which he Wrote/Produced is Legit!!

Lenny Kravitz has confirmed that the 90-second clip of "Another Day".. the new Michael Jackson track that leaked online over the weekend.. is no hoax!

Lenny says it's a song that he recorded with Michael a few years ago.

He says he has no idea how the track got out or who the DJs are on the leaked version, but they have "..nothing to do with the track."

Lenny says that he wrote, produced and played all of the instruments on "Another Day".  He adds, quote, "It was one of the most amazing musical experiences that I've ever had.

"It was done by two people who had respect for each other and who love music.. that was it."

Biggest Montreal Moments of 2009: UFC 97-Redemption Retires Chuck Lidell!!

Almost a year to-the-day after Montreal hosted the UFC's very first event in Canada, breaking the Ultimate Fighting attendance record.. UFC 97: Redemption came back to the Bell Centre to break the record once more.. by a mere 61 fans!

Not only did Montreal cement its name as a real Ultimate Fighting Mecca in 2009.. but, the 21.451 fight fans were also treated to what may have been legendary UFC champ Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell's final bout in a first-round TKO loss to vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua! 

According to reports.. Lidell is scheduled to appear as an opposing coach to his famous rival Tito Ortiz in Season 11 of the reality series "Ultimate Fighter".  Rumour has it, Liddell and Ortiz 'may' end the television season with one more bout, but nothing has been confirmed.

The event will feature brief presentations by staff, residents and board
members. We will be offering tours of the premises, including a look at the
model apartment where our youth live in the supervised apartments of the
building.

A silent auction will be held through out the evening to raise funds that
will directly benefit upcoming youth educational programs ( communication,
problem-solving skills and job re-entry skills) and aid with purchasing much
needed equipment for the center. All proceeds raised go directly to
Ressources Jeunesse de St-Laurent for the youth of the center.

Among the auction items is a "platonic" coffee-date with Bilal Butt of CHOM's The Butt Show, an autographed Guillaume Latendresse shirt and an autographed Montreal Alouettes Cheerleader Calendar!!

One Night Stand for Temple of the Dog.. will it be Soundgarden Next??

On Tuesday night, a PEARL JAM concert in L.A. momentarily morphed into a brief TEMPLE OF THE DOG reunion!!

Temple of the Dog was a tribute band that was together from 1990 to 1992.  They released one self-titled album, which contained the huge hit, "Hunger Strike".

The band was essentially a mix of personnel from PEARL JAM and SOUNDGARDEN.. and now that Soundgarden drummer MATT CAMERON plays with Pearl Jam, they only needed CHRIS CORNELL to complete the reunion.

Chris was there, for some reason, and came up onstage to perform "Hunger Strike" along with another Temple of the Dog song called "Reach Down".  It was the first time they'd all been together since 2003.

Following Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band's slot at the big game on February 1, speculation about next year's half-time headliners began.

Springsteen himself suggested Coldplay, but according to a survey of Rolling Stone magazine readers, they didn't even make the list!

Remembering Buddy Holly - 50 Years Since The Day The Music Died!

Charles Hardin Holley (who changed the spelling of his surname due to an error in the contract) was born in Lubbock, Texas on September 7, 1936 and died 50 years ago today on February 3, 1959.

The spectacled-singer inspired a whole generation of songwriters and new bands, from Dylan and the Rolling Stones to The Beatles, whose name was partly an homage to Buddy Holly's band The Crickets.

Even Don McLean's famous ditty 'American Pie' refers to the tragic plane crash in 1959 that killed 22-year-old Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. 'The Big Bopper' Richardson as "the day the music died."

2009 Superbowl Ads.. Was It Worth The Money??

Super Bowl 43 easily falls into the category of Super Bowls that'll be remembered for the game, not the commercials.  It's not that the ads sucked this year.. all-in-all, it was a mixed bag.. it's that the game itself was pretty exciting, even if you don't like football.

Tonight.. on Law & Order.. Joe Satriani VS. Coldplay!!

Last Thursday, guitar virtuoso JOE SATRIANI filed a lawsuit against COLDPLAY.. accusing them of plagiarism!  Joe claims that the Coldplay hit, "Viva La Vida", rips off an instrumental track he released in 2004 called "If I Could Fly".

Remember last year's 5 a.m. brawl between Kid Rock and some dude at a Georgia Waffle House?

After a window was broken and a few naughty words were thrown around, both parties were arrested. Rock was charged with simple battery and ultimately sentenced to 80 hours of community service.

Who Needs Medals Anyway?

We're already into Day 8 of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and the 'true north' has been anything but 'strong and free' so far.  Well, free of medals maybe!  As of today, a total of 52 countries have won at least one Olympic medal in China.  Heck, even Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Togo and Azerbaijan have made the medal count list.  Borat's home country of Kazakhstan have 2 silver and 2 bronze to brag about!

The world is watching and despite being one of the most beloved countries on the planet, Canada still has nothing to show for it. Is it really that big of a deal?  I mean, 4 years of training for the chance to compete in a few events isn't much is it?  Sometimes, the integrity of sportsmanship and fair play can be more impressive than winning a gold medal.  

But, what is a gold medal really worth?  Here's what I found..

According to the Olympic Charter, each gold medal must contain SIX grams of gold.  Right now, the current price of gold is about $26.50 US per gram.  That works out to about $160 US worth of gold.  

But, gold medals actually contain about 92.5% silver!  Right now, silver is worth around $15 US per ounce.  If you do the math, the value of the silver in a gold medal works out to about $60 US.

That makes a grand total value of $220 US for 4 years of rigorous physical training, mental anguish and sincere dedication.  But, the bragging rights are priceless!

Runnin' Wild In Montreal.. A Night With Airbourne!

It was my 29th birthday this past Thursday. I've never really made much of a fuss on the anniversary of my arrival on this beautiful planet, but this time there was something new and exciting happening. After years of waiting for a new AC/DC album that would blow my ears out, along came their Australian reincarnates.. Airbourne!

 

Listening to their international debut Runnin' Wild is like the adrenaline rush you get from a kick in the junk with a mouthful of beer while free-falling at 50,000 feet! Songs like "Stand Up For Rock And Roll" and the title-track serve as the gospel according to Airbourne. Gettin' drunk, havin’ fun and rockin' out!

Finally! Cupcakes are "IN" for '08.. now we can all get fat again!

Can someone please explain to me where these declarations of "In & Out" are coming from? After every celebration of the new year, it seems a secret gathering of pop-culture gnomes, emerging from the lawns of Hollywood trend-setters, assemble to decide what should be 'cool' this year is that word 'out' now? and what should be tossed in the recycling bin. And, I say "recycling bin" (instead of trash), because it seems there haven't really been any 'new trends' in the past decade or so. Every time I turn my head, they decide to bring back something that was swept under the rug by a previous generation. We've seen the return of bell-bottom jeans, aviator sunglasses, knee-high socks, khaki and cargo pants over the years, to name a few. Why do we still call them 'designers' if they're not really designing anything? The lack of creativity in Hollywood isn't surprising though. Look at television for instance.. the past decade has been ruled by reality shows that write themselves. Lets put a bunch of people on an island and let them run around all day, then take credit for it. Idiots. Even sweater-vests à la Mr. Rogers are back for 2008. At least you'll finally mean it when you say, "Thanks for the sweater Grandma!"

Take 2 - Musician's Against Drunk Driving Fundraiser This Sunday!

Hey Friends!

Due to the massive snow storm on December 16th, no one besides the performers, volunteers and bar staff attended the fundraising event I helped organize last month. We had hoped to raise funds (and awareness) for a young lady and Montrealer named Maggie who's life was shattered by a drunk driver only weeks before moving to her new home in California with a new job as a writer for Surfer Magazine.

Some friends tried to convince me to cancel the show, but I was never a quitter, so we went ahead as scheduled. At around 9pm, we were just jamming for fun and were about to pack up our things, when in walked a band from Tennessee called 'Paramore'.. kind of an Avril Lavigne vibe, minus the sappy ballads. They had just come off the stage at Club Soda and were staying at the hotel across the street. There were no more than a dozen of them, including crew members, but they gave us a reason to keep playing for the rest of the night. A few of them even joined us to jam on stage and after hearing about Maggie's unfortunate story and the reason we had gathered to perform that night, they began walking up to the donation box, one by one. They signed the guest book and donated beyond anyone's expectations.

Most of you probably don't know this yet, but your buddy Bilal has an alter-ego! A musical poet who takes over after midnight, wandering the endless road of acoustic folk music under the moniker Billy Brown. I've been a musician since my later high school years and take songwriting very seriously. I use it as a creative outlet to express some of the things that can't be translated through the airwaves or Facebook graffitti!

On that note.. I'll be playing a live acoustic show (mostly originals + a few covers) as Billy Brown this Sunday night at Ye Olde Orchard Pub downtown as part of a fundraiser for a young lady and friend who's life changed drastically 2 weeks ago when she was hit head-on by a drunk driver in Nova Scotia. Maggie recently found her dream job as a writer for Surfer Magazine in California.. moved to San Diego where she met her fiancé Doran and was set to be married. She had finally found her place and was just starting her new life when it all came crashing down on her way from the airport to visit her dad in the maritimes.

Mama.. I Want A Taser For Christmas!

If you can't ban them.. buy 'em. That's what our neighbours to the south are doing. Believe it or not, these ridiculous death-machines that resemble your cordless shaver can deliver up to 50,000 volts of electricity through a human being's body through controlled bursts and they're LEGAL in most states. Lucky for us, its illegal for Canadian civilians to purchase or own one. However, like many other vices and illegal substances in the world, you can probably find them if you look hard enough. So, why would you want a taser anyway? One simple reason.. to give 'Officer Ego' a reason to pull his gun on you! I've never read the RCMP handbook on protocols or procedures, but I'm pretty sure that if you pulled out a taser on a cop who was about to tase you.. he or she would drop it, reach for the 9 and bust a cap in your general direction. Actually, the way things are going, you would probably be twitching on the ground like a slice of bacon frying on MAX before you even knew you were being arrested. Personally, I'd much rather be shot in the leg than be hit with the skin/clothing piercing tongs of a taser weapon.

The struggle for human equality goes back hundreds and even thousands of years. We've seen modern civilization cross the thresholds of racism thanks to the help of certain key figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and even Abe Lincoln put the wheels in motion that eventually abolished slavery in the United States. From the feminist movements for equal rights between men and women to the anti-war protests of Vietnam, the majority of our planet's inhabitants have always been behind the idea of equality. Its truly a beautiful thing when you think about it. However, there is a limit to everything in life and I think this time they're going a little too far.

Day 1: Quest To Be The Best..

Ok, so I was told that a 'blog' is supposed to contain your thoughts and opinions on certain subjects or simply a place where you can get your thoughts out! Back to the idea of freedom of speech I guess. So, here's what I was thinking the other day.. and you can call me cocky, conceded or crazy for all I care! However, if you look at most of the successful people in this world, they were either discouraged or ridiculed throughout their climb to the top, but they never let it distract them and neither will yours truly. I knew at a very young age that I was destined to be great at something in this world and I truly believe that everyone is.. most of us just don't see it in us to pursue the dream! I wrote a song once called 'Last Child' about the prodigal son sent down to save the world from war, racism and corruption. That's what I had envisioned as my purpose in life at the time because I do believe its a possibility to stop all the madness! The problem is, even if you have the answer to the world's problems.. no one will listen to you unless you are important enough. At first, I tried to achieve success through music, which hasn't worked out for me yet, but right now its clear that I have a green light to make it happen in radio.. so why not?
